After several years of research and reflections on the hardships the Haitian people have been through and the challenges that lie ahead, Ayiti Gouvènans has developed a better understanding of these ongoing problems that require immediate and urgent attention before it’s too late. Ag is promoting an integrated and a participatory approach to help both public and private organizations begin involving the people and communities in all decisions that are likely to have a positive and lasting impact on their lives. To address the pressing issues of underdevelopment, mismanagement of public resources, indifference of the population, and generalized incompetence of the establishment all over the country, Ayiti Gouvènans has decided to implement thre major programs: Leadership, Good Governance, and Sustainable Development.
Recently, a medical doctors, Registered Nurses, and several educators joined Ayiti Gouvènans to work with the Haitian people and help solve health and educational issues in a sustainable fashion.
These sub-programs are complementary to the programs indicated above, and crucial for any systematic socioeconomic progress in Haiti. These new programs are essentially on Healthcare (preventive medicine), and Education (formal and informal).
LEADERSHIP
For these programs to be effective and successful, good leadership skills is critical to all organizations involved in the process. Ayiti Gouvènans’ ultimate goal for its development initiatives is to bring local players to become s the principal architects shaping and building the future of their community. Our organization is promoting and supporting the emergence of a proactive community leadership in each Haiti’s territorial divisions.
In last three years, Ayiti Gouvènans has launched two major projects in four counties of the Nord-Ouest (Northwest region) of Haiti. These projects (Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Building aim at strengthening local institutions and build the capacity of current community leaders, appointed/elected officials, and those aspiring to lead in a near future.
GOOD GOVERNANCE
Good governance is clearly the opposite of bad governance. It refers to the process of making decisions and implement policies that take into account the following eight major characteristics (UNESCAP). For Ayiti Gouvènans is not only the responsibility of governments and elected officials. It is the business of decision-makers and constituents. For instance, if the civil society is weak and unorganized, it’s very unlikely that good governance can be implemented. Weak and bad governance in Haiti is a direct result or a reflection of the Haitian society at large.
