![]() |
On January 12 at 4:53 PM, the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that devastated Port-au-prince and its bordering towns and cities, also inflicted heavy losses and damages to the whole southern region of Haiti, especially Léogane and Jacmel. This earthquake, the deadliest one in the history of the Americas, took most Haitians by surprise and decimated and injured hundreds of thousand people in 30 seconds. While most Haitians were not aware such of the possibility of such a deadly earthquake in Port-au-Prince, the current Haitian government knew its imminence.
On September 25, 2008, Le Matin, a Haitian daily paper published an article written by Phoenix Delacroix to warn the Haitian government and educate the public on the possibility for a 7.2 magnitude quake to strike Port-au-prince. Ayiti Gouvènans translated the whole article into English and invites you to read it. Click here...
