Citadelle La Ferrière, a fortress built by king Henri  Christophe of Haiti between 1805 and 1820
This citadel is one the fortresses built by King Hernri Christophe of Haiti between 1805 and 1820, on top of Mount La Ferrière (2887 feet high) to control the north approaches to the island. With 12-foot thick and 132-foot high walls; 20,000 men worked in its construction. The Citadelle La Ferrière is one of the most remarkable historic monuments in Haiti and the Americas.
